The alchemyIT Story
AlchemyIT, formerly known as Ram Network Services, has been around for a long time; in fact longer than Telstra BigPond! Our strategy of providing premium grade products and services in a high value-add capacity has ensured we continue to grow in a highly competitive and segmented market.
Company highlights
| 1995 |
A company called Ram Network Services was formed. This was at the time the Internet was born. Most services were based on 33k modems. The customer base grew quickly as the early-adopters raced to come on board. These were the wild times resulting in rapid growth. |
|
| 1998 |
Nigel Patterson, current owner of alchemyIT, purchased the business of Ram Network Services effective 1 June 1998 and relocated offices to Crows Nest. |
|
| 1998 |
Services were upgraded to dial-in ISDN-based 56k and 64k. An Oracle and Omnis based billing system was under development. The customer base took on a mix of domestic home users and small business users. |
|
| 1999 |
Frame relay services added into the product mix which attracted more business grade customers. |
|
| 2000 |
The business continued to grow as industry consolidation took place. Ram Network Services became caught up in the tech boom hype and was nearly consumed by a consortia of smaller businesses all being promised a starry future! We managed to escape just in time. |
|
| 2001 |
The primary Telstra Frame-Relay link was upgraded to a 100M Uecomm Fibre-optic connection in the Crows Nest facility. The IP of ISPM, the billing system was completed and was sold to a business in Melbourne. |
|
| 2002 |
The business continued to expand in both the quality networking arena and the software development areas. We became one of NEC/Nextep’s first channel partners for their premium range of DSL products. A Fibre VLAN was installed between alchemyIT’s data centre and Nextep’s xDSL ATM infrastructure. alchemyIT was attracting far larger clients whilst at the same time providing excellent service to our loyal customer base. |
|
| 2003 |
Signed up as a Telstra Wholesale partner focussing primarily on the higher end Clear Channel services (x.162 and x.163). The business grew by 25% through further expansion into the SME and Corporate market. Installed a significant fibre-based service into the newly developed Jones Bay Wharf development in Pyrmont, Sydney. |
|
| 2004 |
The business enjoyed a 70% growth over the previous financial year. The infrastructure was further enhanced and new corporate offices were occupied. The team continued to grow in its skills and capabilities. The business was renamed to alchemyIT mid year to better reflect the values and purpose of the business. |
|
| 2007 |
With the introduction of new generation broadband technologies (ADSL2+, ADSL, SHDSL, BDSL, etc), alchemyIT continued to source and secure only those technologies know to offer the level of service suitable for businesses. In some cases, we held back on introducing these technologies, but once introduced, were convinved they would deliver as specified. |
|
| 2008 |
Effective 1 March 2008, publicly listed company IntraPower (ASX code: IPX) acquired 100% of the shares in AlchemyIT.
IntraPower is a national ISP with sales and support offices in Sydney, Melbourne and Brisbane. IntraPower provides similar internet based services as those currently offered by AlchemyIT. However, they also have a far broader range of services which would suit many of AlchemyIT’s customers as they look to upgrade their services and support infrastructure. Please take a look at IntraPower’s web site at www.intrapower.com.au |

Throughout the development of alchemyIT, the founder and managing director, Nigel Patterson, has avoided the temptation to grow too quickly. Likewise, only proven technologies and strategies have been adopted. This has contributed the success of the business over the years. We continue to look for ways of adding value to our customer's wherever possible without compromising the integrity of their networks or their business. We remain committed to being the alchemists in business that we truly are.
